Summary: This project will launch (1) ChartLink, a web-enabled application that will provide secure and interactive access to patient information designed for physicians with access to the hospital's medical records, and (2) a computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system which is a secure and interactive tool that will enhance patient care utilizing the internet to increase patient safety and order process efficiency. The population in this study includes rural, low-income, women and children.

Summary: This project will deliver a theory-based brief motivational interview with three followup phone calls to randomly selected 14-18 year olds who seek care in the emergency department of a major university hospital. Expected outcomes are smoking cessation or reduction in smoking at six months after the initial intervention, with both results to be validated using measurements of carbon monoxide.
